The Australian Flora Foundation prizes
The Australian Flora Foundation will award two prizes of $250 each for the best student paper and poster at the conference featuring research on the Australian flora. Summaries of the talk and poster will be posted on the Australian Flora Foundation web site (http://www.aff.org.au).
AuSHS awards and grants scheme
The Australian Society of Horticultural Science (AuSHS), in promoting the profession of horticultural science, fosters opportunities for post-graduate students and young scientists to enhance their professional development by granting funds to support attendance at the national AuSHS conference. Further encouragement is given for horticulture students to strive for excellence in presenting their research, either orally or by poster at the national horticulture conference.
The AuSHS will assist in funding a student or students to attend the AuSHS horticulture conference. The maximum AuSHS commitment will be $1,000 every two years when the conference is held.
Purpose: To encourage and recognise excellence in the study of all aspects of horticultural science by Australian post-graduate students by providing financial support to attend the national horticultural conference.
Eligibility: Australian honours, masters and PhD students enrolled at any appropriate tertiary institution, and formally registered as either full or part-time.
Applications: Applications should be brief, but address the selection criteria outlined below. Applicants should send their submission to the Society via their Head of Department or immediate supervisor. The closing date for applications will be at least four months prior to the AuSHS conference, and the successful applicant(s) will by notified at least two months prior to the conference. Applications should include details of their work and interests and how they will contribute to the profession and horticulture. The submission should state reasons for attending the conference and outline the personal benefits expected to accrue from such attendance.
Conditions: On returning from the conference, the student will be expected to provide a concise written report within two months, outlining highlights, key personal benefits, and how they will use the knowledge and experience in the future. The report will be published in the AuSHS Newsletter.
Selection process: A panel of three suitably qualified AuSHS members will judge applications. In the event of no sufficiently meritorious applications, no Award shall be made.

Involvement in horticultural science.
Application to practical horticulture/management issues.
Relevance of conference to the students research interests.
Commitment of the student to horticultural science/management.
Willingness to contribute to the profession through AuSHS
Presentation standard of submission.
The Award: The Award will cover airfares, accommodation, and full registration expenses, for a student delegate to attend the AuSHS horticulture conference, to a maximum value of $1,000. AuSHS will pay these costs directly on behalf of the student, apart from a reasonable allowance for meals and incidental expenses. In some circumstances, AuSHS may choose to make partial awards to several students, to a total sum not exceeding $1,000.
The AuSHS, or sponsors, will provide two prizes at each national horticulture conference, one for the best oral presentation and one for the best poster. The maximum AuSHS commitment will be $500, $250 for each category. Applications will be invited at the time of conference registration and winners will be selected by an AuSHS panel.
Purpose: To encourage and recognise excellent oral and visual presentation of horticultural research by students.
Eligibility: Post-graduate honours, masters, and PhD students enrolled at any appropriate tertiary institution and formally registered as either full or part-time.
Application: Applicants need to tick the box on their conference registration form.
Selection process: A panel of three suitably qualified AuSHS/NZIAHS members will judge oral presentations and posters. In the event of no sufficiently meritorious presentation or poster, no prize will be awarded. Winners will be announced at the conference.
Young Scientist Conference Travel Award to attend the AuSHS National Conference
Purpose: To encourage and recognise excellence in all aspects of horticultural science by young Australian scientists by providing financial support to attend the National AuSHS Conference.
Eligibility: Awards are only available to young scientists (35 years or younger) who are current financial AuSHS members. Preference will be given to members actively involved in the Society. Awards will not be available to members who have received AuSHS travel assistance under this scheme in the previous three years.
Applications: Applications should be brief and address the selection criteria outlined below. Members should send their application directly to the AuSHS Secretary. The closing date for applications will be at least four months prior to the AuSHS National Conference, and the successful applicant(s) will by notified at least two months prior to the conference. AuSHS may grant more than one award in the year of the national horticulture conference, however the total sum awarded will not vary substantially from the $1,000 allocated. Applicants should include details of their research or extension activities, as well as their involvement with AuSHS. The application should state the benefits to Australian horticultural science and Australian horticulture, and to AuSHS. It should also outline personal benefits expected to accrue from the conference travel.

The Award: The Award can be used to cover fares, accommodation, conference registrations, or other costs associated with relevant travel. The maximum amount awarded in any one year will be $1,000. In some circumstances, AuSHS may choose to make partial awards to several young scientists, still to a total sum not exceeding $1,000. AuSHS will pay the grant directly to the Awardee, on evidence of commitment to undertaking the travel.
